Surrey Senior League Centurions

Is there anyone out there who knows the whereabouts of the family and friends of the following players who made a century or more appearances for us in the early days. Please email Steve Tyler – all information gratefully accepted. (T 07796554350)

George Allen (1956-61) – 100 appearances and 4 goals
A long standing servant of the club, when his playing career had finished, he spent a number of seasons working behind the scenes before taking the manager’s job at Banstead Athletic. Eventually emigrated to Canada where he sadly died a few years ago.

Ken Brown (1954-58) – 112 appearances and 86 goals
Possibly a permit player i.e. a former professional who returned to the amateur ranks

Peter McCluskey (1953-63) – 196 appearances and 124 goals
Two McCluskeys played for the club in the early days, Peter and his brother Jack whose career with the club was shorter. At the end of his playing career, Peter did some jobs behind the scenes before severing his connection

Sean McLoughlin* (1956-67) – 125 appearances and 25 goals
The only member of this venerable list who I saw play as his career ended against Sutton United in the Surrey Senior Cup in 1967. A former Busby Babe, he made a couple of appearances in his first season, none in the second and then became a fixture in the side. We need to add the Spartan and Athenian League appearances i.e. 48 / 8 and 91 / 14 respectively to the headline statistic above to give a total of 264 appeances and 47 goals. Normally a half back (midfield in modern parlance). From the Republic of Ireland, he returned home to the west coast after that Sutton fixture.

Fred Morris* (1959-64) – 150 appearances and 101 goals
Possibily a gas fitter with North Thames Gas – finished playing for us at the end of the Spartan League season

Jim Overall* (1956-65) – 224 appearances and 31 goals
A former Stanley Tech schoolboy, like Sean McLoughlin, his service to the club included playing in the Spartan and Athenian Leagues. Unlike Sean, he didn’t move away but stayed and worked behind the scenes, eventually taking over from George Burrows as Secretary when we entered the Isthmian League but resigned after a year due to business pressures. The venerable Eddie Dukelow replaced him. Eventually emigrated to Canada where he still resides. He was a resolute defender of the old school.

Ron Revell (1953-59) – 122 appearances and 1 goal

Derek Roshier (1956-62) – 200 appearances and 1 goal
Apparently still in the area and playing bowls

Stuart Rosie (1953-63) – 243 appearances and 6 goals
Possibly returned to the Channel Islands after finishing playing

Roy Smith (1960-63) - 125 appearances
His lack of goals is understandable as he was goalkeeper during our final three seasons in the SSFL, eventually moving to the Slough area.
